In the 1st quarter of 2010, Allstate Insurance’s market share was 2.91% which was higher compared to the remaining quarters. The market share decreased to 2.87% for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters of 2010. When we looked at 2011, there was no data for market share for the 3rd and 4th quarters as Allstate did not file for a rate change. However, the 2nd quarter market share was higher at 3.24%. The 1st quarter of 2011 showed a lower market share of 2.87%.
There is no data for the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarters of 2012 in terms of market share. However, the 2nd quarter of 2012 had a higher market share of 3.67% when compared to 2011. When we compared the data for 2013, the market share was better and quite stable at 4.1% for the 3rd and 4th quarters. There was no data available for the 1st and 2nd quarters of 2013 since Allstate did not file for a rate change approval.
The data for 2014 showed that the market share further increased to a stable 4.52% for the 3rd and 4th quarters. They did not file for a rate approval for the 1st and 2nd quarters of 2014. The market share of Allstate saw a further increase to 5.06% that remained stable over the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2015.
Allstate did not file for a rate approval for the 2nd quarter and we are still in the 4th quarter of 2016. The 1st quarter saw the market share stay stable at 5.06% when compared to the previous year. However, the market share increased to an all-time high at 5.57% for the 3rd quarter of 2016. By the beginning of 2017, we will have an idea if those numbers stayed stable over the last quarter of 2016 or fluctuated.
Allstate Car Insurance Rate Changes Review

In the 1st and 2nd quarters of 2010, Allstate Insurance’s average rate change showed a decrease in rates. The rate change decreased by 1.01% for the 1st quarter and it further decreased by 2.01% for the second quarter. But there was an increase seen in the rate changes for the remaining quarters of 2010. The 3rd quarter saw a marginal increase of 0.08% whereas there was a huge increase of 6.52% for the last quarter of 2010. In 2011, there were no rate change filings for the last 2 quarters and no rate change for 1st quarter as well. However, there was an increase in the approved rate change by 5.86% for the 2nd quarter of 2011.2010 – 2011 Rate Change
2012 – 2013 Rate Change Review
There were no rate change filings done for the 1st, 3rd, and last quarter of 2012. There was no change in rates for the 2nd quarter of 2012. When we looked at 2013, there were no filings for 1st and 2nd quarters. But there was a marginal decrease by 0.97% in the rate changes approved for the 3rd quarter of 2013. There was also a dramatic all-time decrease in rates changes by 14% for the last quarter of 2013.
2014 – 2015 Rate Change Review
Overall 9 insurers filed for rate change approvals in the 3rd quarter of 2014 representing about 26.65% of the market. Allstate Insurance had a rate change approval that increased by 2.50% for that quarter. There were 16 insurers representing 46.81% who filed for a rate change in the last quarter of 2014. There was no rate change approved for Allstate for that quarter. The number of insurers who filed for a rate change for the 2nd quarter of 2015 was 26 representing 52.75% of the market. The rate change approved for Allstate increased by 2.83%. There were 40 insurers who applied for a rate change for the 3rd quarter of 2015 and that represented 77.45% of the industry. Allstate had a marginal rate change increase of 0.03% in that quarter.
2016 Rate Change Review
Allstate did not file for rate changes in the 2nd quarter of 2016 and the data for the last quarter is not available yet. The 3rd quarter of 2016 saw 50 insurers representing 83.36% of the market file for a rate change. Allstate had a decrease of 4.36% for that quarter. There were 25 insurers who represented around 63.56% of the market in the 3rd quarter of 2016. Allstate had a rate change increase approved for 4.98% for that quarter.

Collision – This will cover the cost of repairing or replacing your car if there is a collision with another object or vehicle. Example: hitting a pothole.
Comprehensive – Losses to your vehicle that are not due to collision will be covered. Examples: vandalism, fire, theft.
Specified Perils – The coverage is for specified perils on the policy as per the list. Example: theft, riot.
All Perils – A mix of collision and comprehensive coverage.
Loss of Use – You could get a reimbursement for alternative use of transportation when your car is damaged or stolen.
Damage to a Non-Owned Vehicle – The coverage is extended to a rental vehicle.
Waiver of Depreciation – There will be no depreciation applied if your new car is damaged in a collision.

- Claim Forgiveness – Subject to certain terms and conditions your premiums may not increase when you make only 1 claim in 5 years.
- Disappearing Deductible – If you do not claim then your deductible will decrease every consecutive policy term until it nullifies.
