The city of Quinte West initiated their TMP in 2011 for the next 20 years. TMP aims for better city infrastructure and roadways for future. They have many stakeholders and local partners to implement the TMP. These include the City, Counties of Hastings and Prince Edward, Quinte Conservation Authority, Ontario Trails Council. Nearby Municipalities, Waterfront Regeneration Trust, Quinte West Tourism, and Friends of the Lower Trent Trail. Long-term viable and affordable transportation for the commercial, passenger, and cargo services are part of the TMP. By 2031, the TMP aims at a 4 -way lane to reduce traffic congestion along problem areas. These include DJ MacDonald Bridge, Dundas Street E till Marmora Stree. Veterans Skyway Bridge and Dixon Drive up to Sidney Street. This will improve the connection of Highway 401 with Loyalist and Wallbridge Road on the east side of Hamilton Road.

Main Agenda of TMP

The city has identified 2 main zones that need to reduce traffic congestion. These include the south and north sides of Highway 401 along the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road that is highly congested. The second congested area is the DJ MacDonald & Veterans Skyway Bridges. These are the only 2 crossings to the Trenton and Belleville area on the east and westbound network. Also, the Wooler Road that connects to Highway 401, Front/Division and Sidney Street also needs traffic improvement as per TMP. Maybe an extension to the Dundas Street, by analyzing the Dixon and Dundas corridor intersections could remedy the congestion. TMP also aims at optimizing arterial traffic intersections and roadways signaling. The TMP aims at improving motor transportation in the urban areas. As well as enhance the use of transit and active transportation to increase the lifespan of road infrastructure.
