Long-term viable and affordable transportation for the commercial, passenger, and cargo services are part of the TMP. By 2031, the TMP aims at a 4 -way lane to reduce traffic congestion along with problem areas. These include DJ MacDonald Bridge, Dundas Street E till Marmora Stree. Veterans Skyway Bridge and Dixon Drive up to Sidney Street. This will improve the connection of Highway 401 with Loyalist and Wallbridge Road on the east side of Hamilton Road.
Main Agenda of TMP
The city has identified 2 main zones that need to reduce traffic congestion. These include the south and north sides of Highway 401 along the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road which is highly congested. The second congested area is the DJ MacDonald & Veterans Skyway Bridges. These are the only 2 crossings to the Trenton and Belleville area on the east and westbound network. Also, the Wooler Road that connects to Highway 401, Front/Division, and Sidney Street also needs traffic improvement as per TMP. Maybe an extension to Dundas Street, by analyzing the Dixon and Dundas corridor intersections could remedy the congestion. TMP also aims at optimizing arterial traffic intersections and roadway signaling. The TMP aims at improving motor transportation in urban areas. As well as enhance the use of transit and active transportation to increase the lifespan of road infrastructure.
