Dryden is located on Lake Wabigoon in the district of Kenora and follows the Central Time zone.  It is part of the nomadic cultural Ojibwe nation that extends from Huron Lake to Lake of the Woods. Dryden is located conveniently along the major Trans-Canada highway between Thunder Bay, Manitoba, and Winnipeg. You may easily connect to Dryden by air, rail, or roadways. If you are crossing over from the U.S. then you may use the Fort Frances border or International Falls crossing. Driving on the east from Fort Frances you may stay on Highway 11 for about 30 km and turn north on Highway 502. You may then follow Highway 17 take a right and get to Dryden. If you are trying to get to Dryden from Winnipeg then you may use the Trans-Canada that is Highway 1 there and changes to Highway 17 in Ontario.  From Thunder Bay, you may use Highway 17 and take the west route for 340 km to reach Dryden. City of Dryden Initiatives

The Public Works department of Dryden takes care of the designing, construction, and planning of sanitary & storm sewers, water mains, streets, and roads. In winter they arrange for removal and plowing of snow on about 200 km of roads, does traffic sign maintenance, and sweeping of roads. They have an updated database for mapping and developing sub-divisions throughout the city for a better transportation network. The Public Works department also takes care of any repairs for potholes, missing traffic signs, washouts, road debris, etc. The city of Dryden has a five-year program for road construction and rebuilding for the infrastructure.

  • The city will set up No parking signs in the south part of Wood Street between Wood Close and Birch Avenue. This will be in effect on weekdays between 8 in the morning to 4.30 in the evening. It starts from Sep 1st to June 30th every year.

There will be 3 new stop signs in the subdivision of Edgewater Terrace.

  1. The 1st stop sign will be set up at the intersection of Edgewater Drive and Gamble Drive on the westbound side.
  2. Then the 2nd stop sign will be set up at the intersection of McMillan Drive and Wabigoon on the eastbound side.
  3. At the intersection of Colonization Avenue North – Highway 601and Heather Drive on the westbound side, the last stop sign will come up.

The above table was presented by Ontario Police Service, Dryden division to compare collision data over 3 years; 2013 to 2015. The total number of collisions saw an increase in 2014 but declined by 6 in 2015. Collision incidents due to speeding while driving saw the same trend when it increased by 15 in 2014. But in 2015, it declined by 17. There was stability in the number of collisions due to driver inattention in 2013 and 2014 at 76. But this dropped in 2015 by 20. The only causal factor for the collisions that saw a steady decline was impaired driving. The reduction of collisions due to impaired driving was the highest in 2014 that was 18 over the previous year.

The Dryden Police Service organizes many traffic enforcement blitzes to respond to complaints of dangerous driving. They monitor and use enforcement to issue warnings and tickets. This is to ensure to minimize motor vehicle collisions leading to injuries and property damage.
